Austria

Salzburg:

  • Try a Mozartball!
  • Sound of Music Biking Tour: would recommend doing this over the bus tour because you can get much closer to the attractions and the ride isn’t hard.
  • Walk to the Hohensalzburg Castle.
  • Walk around the city, it’s a really cute place.
  • Take the cable car to the top Untersberg.
  • Bärenwirt: amazing dinner, traditional Austrian food, best dinner I had in Austria.
  • Fingerlos: really good brunch.

Hallstatt:

  • Would definitely recommend going here if you’re going to be in Salzburg. The best way to get here is by driving but there are also bus tours that go.
  • Eat at Braugasthof – really good schnitzel, pancake soup and fish.
  • Take the gondola to the top of the hill.
  • Rent a little boat and cruise around the lake.
  • 5 Fingers gondola: I didn’t get to do this because I got there too late but I’ve heard really good things.
  • Walk around the city and walk all the way to the end for the famous viewpoint.

Vienna:

  • Check out the Main Square.
  • Schonbrunn Palace.
  • Vienna Urban Adventures has a great food tour that teaches you not just about the local cuisine but also about the history of Vienna.

Notes:

  • Driving from Vienna to Salzburg is a scenic drive and only about 2 hours.
  • Try the soup with pancakes – it was one of my favorites dishes (it’s like really salty chicken noodle soup with pieces of plain pancakes in it).
  • Try different kinds of schnitzel while you’re in Austria.
